Medical Laboratory Technician
Program overview
As a Medical Laboratory Technician, students are trained to collect blood, tissue and other samples from patients, log patient samples and prepare them for testing. Students perform laboratory procedures such as preparing specimens, culture media and stock solutions, and recognizing problems and errors in lab procedures. They also learn to use automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing numerous tests simultaneously, as well as microscopes, cell counters, and other sophisticated laboratory equipment. The program includes a 2-week experiential learning simulation module and a 4-week practicum.
