Dental Radiography (HARP Approved)
Program overview
This course introduces students to the basic science of radiation, including its discovery, history, and modern use within the dental profession. Students are introduced to the equipment and supplies required for the various types of films and images used in the dental profession, and develop the skills to critique exposed X-rays and understand the cause and effect of equipment adjustments. Topics include patient management, exposing and processing films, correctly mounting radiographs using anatomical landmarks, quality assurance and the ALARA principle, and federal and provincial regulations dealing with radiation. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate confirming they meet HARP legislation requirements and are qualified to operate an X-ray machine in Ontario.
